I have seen places that my mind continues to insist still exist.
A staircase leading from a tunnel to a school and a town written about in stories. A lonely hill, flanked by marshy lowlands covered in morning fog, on which a prison sits. And a straight road stretching as far as the eye could see, where, as children, we raced airplanes taking off on old, rickety bikes.
All these have been lost in time, like sandcastles in rain.
And I have seen new visions rising in their stead.
I have walked through cities rebuilt faster than memory can follow.
I have watched software become obsolete while still young, and exquisite old machines keep ticking through the digital transformation.
And I have sold futures that did not yet exist, then watched them come to life with my own disbelieving eyes.
This is my blog about walking the narrow bridges between worlds – physical and digital, tradition and technology, East and West.
You can call me Bridgewalker.
The world is changing quickly now, as is Singapore. Even as I write, new forms of intelligence are being born into the machinery of ordinary life.
The essays here are my attempt to record this period of history, for myself, and for an archivist of the far future — human, AI, or perhaps something stranger — who might one day read these lines and learn something about the messy, beautiful, glorious experience of being human in these times.
